WEIGHT LOSS WITH PCOD

Diet plays a very important part in PCOD patients to lose weight. A low GI diet is recommended

specially to maintain normal levels of insulin .most women suffering from PCODS are resistant to

insulin and as a result their pancreas secrete excessive insulin to regulate sugar levels in blood. As

insulin prevents fat burn insulin control is the best way to lose weight .

Symptoms of high levels of insulin

 Weight gain

 Facial hair

 Pigmentation specially at neck and underarms

 Skin tags

 Abrupt hunger cravings

 Irregular periods.

Many times these symptoms are commonly found in kids specially girls at the age of 10-12.

A well balanced diet along with 45 minutes of daily exercise can revert back the symptoms.

A high fibre low GI diet is the answer.

What to eat


 Whole grains like brown rice/whole wheat flour

 High proteins like kidney beans/chickpeas

 Soybeans contain isoflavones, which are chemically similar to estrogens.

 Seasonal green leafy vegetables

 Healthy fats found in Nuts / seeds/cold pressed oils/and limited amounts of

fermented ghee.

 Vitamin C in the form of limes/lemons/oranges

 Seasonal fruits but not more than three in day


Foods to avoid

All high GI foods that have been processes to either remove its fibre or add any form of

sugar. In short eat foods in its natural form.

 White rice or white breads

 All sugary drinks like-Fruit juices/aerated drinks

 The bad fats-trans fats or hydrogenated fats

 All types of junk foods( even if they are claimed to be baked. it’s just a marketing

gimmick)

 Excessive milk intake( due to the hormones injected to cattle)


Though weight loss is a big challenge for PCOD patients but not impossible. Long

term changes in diet along with regular exercising can give good results. But it’s very

important to keep any kind of stress at bay!
